Geraldine L. Thompson at Sunny Hill Plantation in Thomasville, Georgia
Known as New Jersey's "first citizen," Geraldine L. Thompson was a successful reformer, philanthropist and political operative. Stories of her kindness, generosity and tenacity are legendary. One colleague recalled that she was "like bumping up against a cyclone." From her early work establishing public health care for victims of tuberculosis to her later work as a conservationist, Thompson saved the day.
